Deep Dives

The Oxford ELLIS Deep Dives are a recurring series of advanced, pedagogical lectures designed to serve the Machine Learning and AI community at Oxford and across its wider ecosystem, including the University of Warwick and the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT).

Held six times per year, the sessions provide in-depth explorations of focused ML/AI topics, combining foundational concepts with recent research presented at leading international conferences. Delivered by ELLIS members or invited experts, the format emphasises teaching and conceptual clarity rather than standard research talks, typically running for two hours followed by networking opportunities.

The initiative consolidates the Oxford ELLIS Unit’s position as a central hub for AI research, deepens collaboration among its departments and industry partners, and advances its wider objectives in visibility, fundraising, outreach, and community building, with a particular focus on doctoral students and early-career researchers.
